Cape Town – Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Fatima Chohan, has appealed to Zimbabweans living in South Africa to get their documentation in order.

“The South African government appeals to Zimbabwean nationals resident in South Africa to take up the offer to regularize their stay in South Africa starting tomorrow.”

This comes after the Home Affairs announced all Zimbabwean immigrants must make an application for related files and enroll their status in the country as the exact dispensation permitting Zimbabweans crossing into South Africa the right to reside, work, attend education facilities and access essential health care for a period of six months was coming to an end.

 

This particular dispensation is to come to a finish on 31 December.

She said the process was aimed at ensuring that Zimbabweans comply with the immigration laws in South Africa, lead ordinary lives while ending their distress of living under constant anxiety about deportation.

The method will undoubtedly be eased by 240 Department of Home Affairs officials who have been deployed to 46 territorial offices throughout the country and also by VFS GLOBAL.

“We reiterate our commitment to expanding amnesty to any or all those who possess deceitful South African identity documents on condition they hand them back to Home Affairs territorial offices in the country,” said Minister.

Zimbabwean nationals were called on by her, to approach their Embassy in Pretoria and consulate in Johannesburg got valid travel documents to empower the South African government to issue them with company, work or study permits and to declare their presence.

“We are convinced that the majority of Zimbabwean nationals resident in South Africa wish to comply with South Africa’s immigration laws and also would need to take up the government offer arrived at through bilateral agreement with the Zimbabwean government, to lead normal lives in the state,” she said.
