Zimbabweans can rekindle SA document

PretoriaZimbabweans working in South Africa can start next week, rekindling their work permits that were special, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said on Thursday.

In August, I announced the establishment of the Zimbabwean Special Permit (ZSP) of 2014, allowing Zimbabwean holders of this specific permit to work, conduct company or study in South Africa for three years, until the ending of December 2017,he said in Pretoria.

Just the roughly 245 000 holders of the Dispensation for Zimbabweans Project (DZP) are eligible to apply for the ZSP.

In June, Gigaba announced that VFS Global, a world-wide outsourcing and technology services’ specialist for diplomatic missions and authorities, had been named to control visa and permit applications in South Africa.

On Thursday, he said the company was ready to process the Zimbabwean immigrants.

All the 10 ZSP application centers have been secured by VFS. These contain completely new centers in Durban, KwaZulu Natal; Cape Town, Western Cape; Polokwane, Limpopo; and Midrand, Gauteng. The remaining six centers are in George, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, and Rustenburg,he said.

A total of 120 staffs would process ZSP adjudications.

Around 250 000 Zimbabweans were issued four-year work permits below the DZP in 2010.

Gigaba said South Africa was under strain from economic migrants from the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

We were trying to regularize the entry and departure of these nationals into our state. Instead of crossing the fences and entering through unusual means they are able to enter through a recognized port of entry,he said.

Visitors from the SADC region had a 90-day visa exemption annually.

If you stay longer than 90 days in a calendar year you’ll be considered to get overstayed, and you’ll currently be liable for penalties as employing in the 1/8new 3/8 immigration regulation,he said.

We’ve been insisting that fellow African nations must collaborate with us by identifying their nationals, supply them with passports and we both manage the movement.

Gigaba said immigration regulations around the region needed to be harmonized so no nation carried a disproportionate weight of financial migrants.

Gigaba said the approaching documentation of Zimbabweans would not be characterized by chaos, as happened in 2010. This is 2014, and we’re ready for it.

People are going to be invited for interviews. Nobody is going to jump the queue or bribe their way,he said.

The applications would cost R870.

People consider this fee is fair in comparison with visas and licenses of similar length.

Zimbabwe experienced a mass exodus of citizens following land seizures as well as the contested 2008 elections in which President Robert Mugabe retained office. The market was plunged into the downturn characterized by hyperinflation.
